The latest online PCGS Population Report states that only sixty three 1898-P dollars have achieved this grade designation with just twelve coins finer. This particular specimen is sharply struck with all of the details boldly articulated. The fields are quite deeply mirrored and the devices are creamy, rendering a subtle contrast. The surfaces have been meticulously preserved and are on par with a MS66 DMPL 1898-P dollar I sold a while back. A very thin film of pale champagne patina is evident throughout although it is more pronounced on the reverse.
