ANA Just Around the Corner

Monday, July 23, 2007 | Printer Friendly Printer Friendly

This past week has seen an increase in activity for numismatic coins on a wholesale basis. Dealers are trying to buy a larger variety of coins on the teletype systems including U.S. Gold, Morgan and Peace Dollars, Walkers, Mercury Dimes, Standing Liberty Quarters, and especially Indian and Lincoln Cents. This means collectors are still looking for coins in these series, but they are very specific in what they will accept. Collecting is all about buying accurately graded coins at Fair Market Value.

Gold bullion has advanced over $30 in the last couple of weeks leading to hundreds of increases in the Moderns edition of the Wholesale Market Dealer Price Guide this week. Not only have the bullion coins advanced, but so have many of the highest grades. There is still a strong market for Registry coins; new collectors enjoy owning coins that are perfect or nearly so.

The ANA is just a couple of weeks away and dealers are gearing up for this major annual event. There is the usual pre-show a week earlier and several major auctions to help fuel activity. It will be a long two weeks in the Milwaukee area so dealers are expected to bring their best coins in order to entice as much wholesale and retail sales as possible. The ANA always attracts thousands of collectors from all over the country.
