With the ANA Money Show just two weeks away, there is a lot of anticipation around the country. There will be a couple of Pre-ANA Shows and several major auctions in Denver to attend. With the summer winding down, dealers expect that most vacationing dealers and collectors will be back into the coin market mode. They expect that this will solidify some of the prices that have seemed like bargains and drifted downward over the last few weeks. The combination of nice coins and rare coins still do not sell cheap but some of the issues that had moved dramatically higher over the last few months have retreated and lost some of these gains. It will be interesting to see if these downturns subside with market makers back and working. With all the hype for the $50 Gold Buffalo, it looks like wholesale prices are already coming down. There was a quick moment that dealers could buy them directly from the mint and resell them to other dealer who already had them sold to collectors. However, the mint raised the limit and now anyone can purchase up to 5,000 coins. This should put plenty of these Buffalo Gold coins into the market so that they will not be all that rare. While these coins are being sought, it looks like the premiums on real U.S. Gold coins have fallen to very advantageous levels. The metals are having a difficult time sustaining any upward momentum at this time. It seems like they make a run up only to fall back just as quickly. This morning they have been down slightly. It sure seems like the metals should be headed to higher ground from where we are today with all the current economic forces in play. Gold is $633.80 and Silver is $11.28; Platinum is currently at $1223, bucking the downward trend of Gold and Silver. -What's Hot? $10 Indian Gold Rare Dates MS63 and Higher $5 Indian Gold Rare Dates MS63 and Higher BU Rolls Dollars, Walkers, Franklins Gold Commems MS63 and Higher Silver Commems MS64 and Higher Barber Coins MS63 and higher Early Gold -- $2 ½, $5, & $10 XF & higher Battle Creek Dollars Lovely Toned Morgans Carson City Dollars Govt Holders Carson City Dollars NGC Certified Walkers 1916 to 1934 MS63 and higher Walkers 1935 to 1947 MS64 and higher Indian Cents Red & Red/Brown MS & Proof Early Lincoln Cents Red; MS64 & higher Key Dates in all series Dollars Morgan & Peace in MS64 and Higher Modern Commems With Orig.
