Even though bullion may have put a damper on modern gold and platinum trading this past week, there has been a multitude of increases for truly collectable rare coins. We are often amazed at how much money is available to purchase rare coins, but in comparing the alternatives in other investments, there really is no suitable alternate choice. Taking a closer look at Proof Shield Nickels you might wonder how they can appear to be so reasonable in PR65 and below when you see so few actually available. And many of those available just don't quite measure up to collector scrutiny. So when a better than average coin comes along it will usually bring premiums of the FMV. Judging by the way certain areas of the market are moving higher, it would not be surprising to find some major company building a Wall Street style fund and purchasing rare coins. Capped Bust $5 Gold is a prime example. All dates are moving higher and some dealers are acquiring any and all available coins that meet certain grading criteria. It does not take much of an imagination to see how a specific area can be moved 50% or more. With the right amount of money, a fund can maximize profits in a very short period.
