Always a Demand for PQ Coins

The bulk of the coin market may be somewhat lethargic at current levels; however, there are still very specific coins that are in strong demand. Most dealers will purchase Premium Quality coins in most series prior to 1940 if they are priced at today’s levels. The obstacle here is that most potential sellers want a strong premium over the current Market for these types of coins. Therefore, buyer and seller are only sporadically getting together, usually when a seller needs to create sales for cash. There are more declines in several series in this week’s HD Wholesale Market Dealer Price Guide. Two series we have previously noted continue to falter; Classic Gold and Silver Commemoratives remain very difficult to sell at current Market levels. Buyers will generally show interest only when these coins are discounted. There are some major dealers looking for Premium Quality Gold and Silver Commems in specific grades, although, it appears they are only looking for the upper two percent of the market at these premium prices. The dealer teletype systems remain very busy with bullion related coins. Over 60% of the buy/sell messages relate to bullion coins and most of these dealers are buying. Circulated Morgan and Peace Dollars are continually traded and the market makers are very aggressive with buy prices. Low-end coins are currently wholesaling at $14.50 and up depending on current needs, while the higher grades (VF & XF) will fetch $16 or more. The State Quarters and the new Territorial’s remain very active by the roll, box and bag. The 2009 Gold UHR is steady at $1,450 on up depending on the packaging. The 2009 Lincoln Cents are trading by the box or bags, as well as single certified coins. The television shopping channels are capitalizing on this new Lincoln Cent market.
