Results from the $10.7 million Husak Large Cent Sale affords us the opportunity to update some extremely rare dates in this weeks Lower Denomination Wholesale Price Guide. Many of these coins are so rare they cannot be duplicated by grade. Please check the Heritage website for prices realized of this historical event. There is a smattering of price increases in Half Cents through Standing Liberty Quarters this week with the majority of the advances in Indian Cents, Barber Dimes and Quarters, and Mercury Dimes with Full Bands. Specialty collectors are zeroing in on specific items and competition is forcing prices to higher levels. In the Liberty Seated Quarter series, we have a prime example of what is happening in todays market. An 1867 in MS63 sold for $86,250. This is a coin that most dealers would have thought would bring about $5,000. However, it has a low mintage of 20,000 with only 50 coins certified in all grades by NGC and PCGS. Further, there are only eight coins graded in MS63 and higher with little trading activity over the last couple of years. Coins with like criteria are primary targets for astute collectors.
