Anticipation Builds for Baltimore

Monday, March 13, 2006 | Printer Friendly Printer Friendly

The coin market is headed to Baltimore this week for another major event. The Baltimore Coin and Currency Convention begins on Thursday and runs through Sunday. Many dealers will start arriving on Tuesday to hit the local shops and trade with other dealers in town. This could be the largest dealer participation in the history of the Baltimore Convention. With the market running as hot as it is nobody wants to miss out on any major shows or auctions. Dealers need so much material for their customers that they cannot afford to miss an opportunity to find any number of rarities.

The FMV continues to jump dramatically on rare issues with low census numbers. Astute numismatists realize that these coins may have the leading potential as demand persists nearly unabated. Of course, some of the coins in demand are not even on the market and not likely to be any time soon. However, the higher the buy prices climb the likelihood of locating a coin or two is sure in increase. American Numismatic Rarities has plenty of superb rarities in their major auction in Baltimore which takes place on the 14th & 15th. This is sure to attract numerous dealers and collectors competing at a high level.

The overall market remains very steady with lots of buyers in most areas of numismatics. Even the new bullion buyers will start to spill over as a percentage of them get the collecting bug. The metals are higher this morning after last week’s major downturn. Gold is currently at $545.50 and Silver is $10.06. Platinum is up to $1010.
