This past week has brought a sharp increase in many U.S. Bullion related coins. Not only have the modern issues moved higher but the older U. S. Gold coins have increased as well. The premiums continue to be at very advantageous levels if you are considering purchasing common $5, $10, and $20 gold coins. There is still a large supply of coins in the marketplace forcing the premiums to remain at all time lows.
The shift in buying habits of today’s numismatists has created various value inequities for the NumisMedia FMV. This occurred because many new buyers are more interested in bullion coins as they venture into numismatics. The longer novice collectors participate in this market the more likely they will move into other areas. When they do, the older classic coins will once again move in a normal cyclical behavior.
This week’s Wholesale Market Dealer Price Guide for Moderns indicates a vast number of increases for the majority of modern issue coins. There is a lot of activity with buyers stocking up before prices move even higher. The metals jumped this past week with Gold advancing to $691.40 this morning. It is quickly approaching last year’s high of $725 in May. Silver surpassed the $14 mark at $14.03 and Platinum is $1288.
