This weeks LD Wholesale Market Dealer Price Guide shows a variety of adjustments throughout. Beginning with Half Cents and Large Cents there are numerous advances for specific issues from many transactions in the last few weeks. Many of these issues have not traded in some years so new information combined with current population reports can have a dramatic effect on current wholesale prices. Several times we have noticed the price of one grade increase past the price of the previously reported next higher grade which further influences those prices as well. Seated coins are following the same pattern as Early Copper. There is a lot of activity and prices continue to rise overall. Coins, where wholesale values are unchanged, are still likely to trade if offered at current prices. We did notice that prices are mixed in the Buffalo Nickel and Mercury Dime series. Many better dates have adjusted slightly downward due to recent discounted trades. In most cases, the declines are nominal and certainly create buying opportunities for advanced collectors. Further insight seems to indicate that buyers and sellers are getting together because of differing current needs. Some sellers are taking profits and changing their current focus into bullion. Money is the strength of the coin business and there has never been a more opportunistic time to purchase rare coins. Whether buyers are acquiring numismatic coins or bullion related modern coins, dealers are noticing a tremendous increase in business currently taking place. Buyers want physical coins in their hands because they do not trust paper stock certificates. This is a great time to be a coin dealer.
