Buying Opportunities This Summer

The upcoming summer months could prove to be less than active for many dealers. There are few major coin shows and auctions until the ANA in Milwaukee. Combining this along with the current softness in common coins and it points to a long summer. An indecisive metals market does not help either as dealers can proclaim “buying opportunities” just so many times. Although the average collector has little discretionary income left after paying for gas and all the other necessities that continue to rise, there are still thousands of advanced collectors with lots of money to spend. These collectors will take advantage of the current market and buy when they feel price and quality are in accord. Early Gold and Type remain hot items. Much of this material is not readily available unless it has some sort of problem. Just check the census reports for the low numbers of coins that actually make the grade. In addition to these early issues, dealers are looking for Seated Coins of all denominations. There is not enough in Mint State and Proof to satisfy today’s demand. Indian and Lincoln Cents remain as active as ever. Aggressive dealers remain anxious to locate high grade Deep Mirror Prooflike Dollars as well.
