Coin Market Robust Despite Soft Metals

Even though the metals continue to seek lower levels, the coin market remains very active. The metals suffered through the worst period in several months this past week as Gold, Silver and Platinum lost much of the ground they gained over the previous couple of weeks. Yet, we are seeing many dealers remaining very active in this area as they buy and sell to investors and collectors. It looks like many buyers are in the market taking advantage of lower levels adding to their previous holdings. We did notice a slight change in the teletype system as there seems to be more dealers selling all material than in the past several weeks. It may just be a matter of some dealers being a little concerned about being inventory-heavy and wanting to get in a better cash position. This is something we will continue to observe over the next couple of weeks as the Anaheim Coin Show and Long Beach attract dealers from around the country to Southern California. Bowers and Merena Auctions will host a major sale at Anaheim, which is bound to bring added attendance to a growing show. Dealers have already begun to arrive as they visit local coin shops and prepare for the many other auctions over the next week or so. Next week will continue with the Long Beach Expo and Heritage Auction Galleries will conduct one of their super Signature Sales. These events are sure to attract much numismatic interest and go a ways to determine future market direction -What's Hot? $5 Indian Gold MS63 and Higher BU Rolls Dollars, Walkers, Franklins Gold Commems MS63 and Higher Silver Commems MS63 and Higher Barber Coins MS63 and higher Early Gold -- $2 ½, $5, & $10 XF & higher Early Bust Halves & Dollars Fine and Higher Battle Creek Dollars Lovely Toned Morgans Carson City Dollars Govt Holders Carson City Dollars NGC Certified Mercury Dimes MS63 & up 1916-30 Walkers 1916 to 1947 MS63 and higher Indian Cents Red & Red/Brown MS & Proof Early Lincoln Cents Red; MS64 & higher Key Dates in all series Dollars Morgan & Peace in MS63 and Higher -What's Not?
