As expected the Baltimore Coin and Currency Convention drew a large attendance from both dealers and collectors. The show began strong for most dealers with the continued search for early coins from the 1800s to the 1860s in most grades. High grade Mint State and Proof Seated coins continue to increase as noted in this weeks LD Wholesale Market Price Guide. When rare dates are located, they are frequently bringing record prices. The Bowers and Merena Auctions in Baltimore verified that rarities continue to increase in value as they come onto the market. Highest graded early Lincoln Cents attracted extremely aggressive bids; for example the 1913 MS67 Red realized $47,150 and the 1913 D in MS66 Red brought $17,250. Early Proof Lincoln Cents have always been rare and remain very popular. The 1916 in PR67 Red and Brown sold for $20,700. For other highlights please check with Bowers and Merena Auctions. The metals suffered through a rough period last week but finished on an upward note. This morning Gold is just under $900 at $899.30 and Silver is $17.30. Platinum is currently at $2057. These prices were reported as of 8:10 am PDT. See this E-News and past issues in E-News Archive: http://www.numismedia.com/market/enews/archive.shtml -What's Hot?
