The U.S. Mint recently increased the availability of the 2009 UHR from one coin per buyer to ten coins. This has increased the number of certified coins in the market and the premiums are beginning to fall. You can now monitor the FMV and Market prices of these new issues in the Modern Eagles section of the NumisMedia Price Guides.
The coin market is exposing a considerable amount of discounting, especially in Modern issues. The number of active collectors for Modern coins has drifted lower in the last ten months. This has escalated market quantity and FMV prices have fallen. Most dealers feel this is a temporary situation that is directly related to the economy. Washington Quarters in PR70 have been hit the hardest. There has been very little dealer buying support within 20% of previous Market prices. A majority of the declines fall within the 1977 to 1998 date range. The 1995 W Silver Eagle is the rarest of all Silver Eagles. However, the Market price continues to fall for this modern rarity. Grades in Ultra Cameo PR66 to PR69 are lower this week. Demand remains very strong for bullion coins as listed in this week’s Moderns Wholesale Market Dealer Price Guide. The Market for Proof Platinum coins is higher in PR68 & 69; Proof Gold Eagles are higher in PR69 & 70. Buyers for Buffalo Gold are very aggressive and the Fractional issues from 2008 are still difficult to locate in all grades and original government packaging.
