ANA week begins on Tuesday with PNG Day at the Los Angeles Convention Center followed by the official ANA auction hosted by Bowers and Merena Galleries, August 5-8. There will be six sessions of this auction with nearly 5,000 lots of U.S. coins, colonials, paper money and foreign coins including the following highlights: - The only confirmed proof 1876-CC Seated Dime, Type I reverse, certified PCGS Proof-66 Branch Mint. - 1893-CC Morgan Dollar VAM-2, PCGS Proof-65, a Class I Branch Mint proof in the Morgan Dollar series. - 1796 Capped Bust Right Quarter Eagle. BD-3, HBCC-3033, Miller-2. Rarity-3+. MS-63 (PCGS). The Dr. Steven Duckor Collection of Barber Quarters was sold this past weekend by Heritage Auction Galleries. This magnificent collection attracted hundreds of bidders vying for coins from the number one all time set. A few of the highlights are listed below. 1896 O MS66 - $20,700 1901 O MS67 - $27,600 1909 D MS 67 - $10,350 1913 S MS67 - $60,375 While sales and prices of rare coins may have been somewhat softer than expected during the summer months, there are some signs that certain areas are beginning to strengthen. There are falling prices in most series, but there are intermittent prices on the rise as well. One example of this is in the Walking Liberty Half Dollar series. Some of the common dates in MS63 to MS66 have moved higher. In this week’s LD Wholesale Market Dealer Price Guide, the number of increases is on the rise as decreases dwindle. Prices are moving upward in Seated Dimes and Quarters as dealers and collectors are actively looking for specific dates. We are continuing to find weaknesses in Buffalo Nickels and Mercury Dimes where large supplies are available. Bullion remains the focus for most dealers; however, we have already noticed that some dealers have strengthened their buy prices in a few series. We will have more about this next week after the show. See this E-News and past issues in E-News Archive: http://www.numismedia.com/market/enews/archive.shtml -What's Hot?
