FUN and Auctions Launch New Year

Monday, January 9, 2006 | Printer Friendly Printer Friendly

There was no shortage of praise from the dealers and the collectors who just attended the FUN Convention in Orlando, Florida. The year is certainly beginning on a high note as activity was spread out among most all dealers. Nice coins and key dates brought higher prices and there were lots of competitive buyers at this first major show of the year.

With the metals moving higher last week and starting this week stronger still, the overall market is very healthy and attracting many new potential collectors. Granted, some of these will be initiated through their purchases of bullion-related coins, but a certain percentage will be converted to full-fledged collectors in time.

The auction houses reported tremendous results from their initial sales of the year and most of the buyers seemed quite satisfied with their new purchases. In many cases, we heard reports of auction purchases being sold right on the floor for serious profits. This is a very good sign for the market as collectors still have extensive needs at this point in time.

As we mentioned, the metals are higher again this morning with Gold currently at $546.70 and Silver at $9.17. Platinum is again approaching the $1,000 level, now at $996.
