Bullion stumbled this past week; however, dealers reported a considerable amount of trading in modern bullion issues. It appears that collectors (investors) are taking advantage of lower prices. While Gold fell to just over the $780 mark on Friday, it is up over $788 at this time. The year end typically brings sporadic movements in metals so market makers can balance their inventories. This weeks Wholesale Market Dealer Price Guide has a multitude of price advances for nearly every series reported. Dealers are reporting heavy activity in most areas of the market with the only hindrance being that they cannot find enough material for their customers. This is an ongoing challenge that is sure to get worse before it gets better. Half Cents and Large Cents are very difficult areas to evaluate because of all the varieties. One thing is certain, the nicer the surface for the grade, the more a coin will realize. We feature many increases this week, especially in the early years where porosity is a major concern. We also found numerous changes for Indian and Lincoln Cents, including Proof Indians. Spotty coins will bring discounts of reported prices.
