Some dealers continue to reduce inventory as the year winds down. Most of these coins are selling to other dealers who need them for their clients. There seems to be more lists of coins for sale on the wholesale networks, however, we do not see much discounting of these coins. In fact, when the same list appears again, many of the coins have been marked as sold. It is a very active market and there are buyers for just about all coins offered for sale. The market continues to be very demand oriented. That means dealers and collectors are looking for specific coins to add to inventory or collections. Many years ago, this kind of market would see lots of declines, but now there are so many active numismatists that the market absorbs most of the inventory reduction sales. We believe this to be a very good sign for 2008. Despite gold bullion falling below the $800 level this past week, we are finding lots of trading activity in the modern bullion issues. It appears that most analysts and numismatists feel that bullion will start back up strong after the first of the year. In the meantime, the Wholesale Market Dealer Price Guide indicates plenty of increases in most series this week. Low census coins and highest grades are still the most popular coins for Registry collectors. We do find some declines but these are for the more common issues that appear to be available in large quantities.
