Long Beach Week is here and so are hundreds of dealers from around the country. While Long Beach does not officially begin until Wednesday, there is still much to do. Dealers are scampering around Southern California visiting coins shops and attending the Pre-Long Beach auctions. From the numbers we hear, trading among dealers prior to the show is a significant amount compared to the overall activity at the show. Needless to say, before this week is over millions of dollars in rare coins will trade hands. The good news is that the collector will be the ultimate beneficiary as they acquire lots of new coins for their collections.
There does not seem to be any slowdown in the overall activity and coins from $10 to hundreds of thousands are still in strong demand. In fact, many of the early coinage are difficult to acquire even though some of the strongest buyers in the country keep raising their buy prices. Apparently astute collectors are not willing to give up these truly rare coins. Along with early coinage Dollars are very strong and so are Silver and Gold Commemoratives. The major market makers are moving lots of these rarities to their customers and the demand has escalated.
The metals remain a hot topic as they keep searching for new recent highs. Gold is now at $570.90 and Silver is $9.77. The strength in Silver is being tested to the $10 level. It keeps approaching but has yet to get there. Platinum is now at $1061. All this attention is attracting a whole new breed of investor/collector.
