This was probably the best retail Long Beach Expo we have seen in many years. The bourse room was crowded from the minute it opened to the public on Thursday morning and remained that way throughout most of Saturday until closing. One of the more interesting aspects of the market and its strength is that the collector realizes they must pull the trigger on desired coins because there may not be a second shot. Many of the sales we witnessed were concluded very quickly. More typical in the past, the collector would contemplate an item, leave the table and look around only to come back and find that the coin had already been sold. It just shows how educated the collector has become in this current market. This was also one of the first shows we can remember where we did not hear one complaint from dealers; they were way too busy to contemplate any negative aspects of their own personal business. In fact, most dealers were continuously moving about trying to fill orders. This was a show where sales simply occurred as a by-product of trying to buy coins. In this kind of a market many of the wholesale dealers dont even need to market their coins as the retailers are right there at their tables trying to buy anything that may fit into the retailers program. We are seeing a lot more variety of coins and series appear on want lists as many dealers are pursuing coins that have low populations relative to the most common within the series. This is definitely a significant wave of the future. The metals are showing signs of profit-taking and have been moving lower for the last week. Gold is currently at $549.20, with Silver at $9.35; Platinum is at a lower $1015. -What's Hot?
