     Numismedia Coin Market Report

Long Beach Week Begins

Monday, February 11, 2008 | Printer Friendly Printer Friendly

The week starts off with two Pre Long Beach Auctions; one hosted by Ira and Larry Goldberg and the other by Superior Galleries. The Goldberg’s Sale has seven sessions running February 10-13 with over 3,500 lots at the Crown Plaza in Beverly Hills. The Superior Sale has two sessions on February 11 & 12 and is held at Superior Galleries also in Beverly Hills. The Heritage Sale takes place February 13-16 at the Long Beach Convention Center in conjunction with the Expo. There are five sessions with over 3,000 lots.

Early Gold, all denominations, continues to be more popular than ever. Wholesale prices for Very Fine and higher grades are extremely strong and many issues are higher in this week’s charts. An increase in dealer buy prices for elusive Mint State grades results in very few sales. However, when these coins are offered, trades usually take place at premiums of current Market levels, thus creating even higher prices.

Gold and Silver have been mixed this past week, although they are still moving upward overall. Platinum has skyrocketed right past $1900 an ounce racing toward $2000. It is currently at $1935 an ounce. Gold is $922.30 and Silver is $17.42. These prices are current as of 9:43 am PST.
