     Numismedia Coin Market Report

Lower Metals Attracting Buyers

Monday, March 31, 2008 | Printer Friendly Printer Friendly

The recent downturn in metals is attracting buyers to Modern issue bullion coins. Dealers are currently trading large quantities of bullion coins on the wholesale teletype networks. Not only are buyers looking for Gold Eagles, Spouse and Buffalo Gold, they also want early $5, $10, and $20 generic Gold. There seems to be little change in consumer attitude that would indicate a feeling that the metals are headed anywhere but higher in the long run.

In the next few weeks, we have two major shows beginning with Santa Clara Coin Expo April 10-12. Superior Galleries will conduct an Elite Sale on April 10. The following week dealers will move to Central States in Rosemont, Illinois on April 16-19. Heritage will host a major Signature Sale April 16-18. Both sales contain numerous coins that should be aggressively sought by collectors and dealers.

This week’s Modern Wholesale Price Guide shows many advances for the highest graded issues. Registry collectors keep this market extremely active because they can showcase their coins and compete for awards and recognition while striving for simply the best set. Jefferson Nickels and Roosevelt Dimes in MS68 are very popular with collectors and continue to bring higher dealer bids.
