Dealers and collectors from all over the country are in the Southern California area this week to attend four major auctions and the Long Beach Expo. The market remains very strong for most series minted prior to 1900, although Barbers are very popular as well. Also highly sought after in this current market are MS64 and higher Morgan and Peace Dollars, Walkers, Copper including Large and Half Cents, Indian and Lincoln Cents up to 1933. With the large number of dealers in town, collectors should have quite a selection of inventory from which to choose. This last Long Beach Expo for the year typically helps determine how the market will unfold for the remainder of the year. Most dealers expect demand to continue for better date coins and, with bullion lower by 20% or more, they expect collectors and investors to take advantage of bargain prices. Gold and Silver are rebounding this morning from last weeks dramatic fall. In spite of this upturn, the Market prices have declined from the previous Modern Wholesale Market Dealer Price Guide. Demand for Modern issues, especially for coins that are easily acquired, is way down from a year ago. Collectors are currently not aggressive in this market and supplies are rising. However, the rare highest grade issues for various series continue to command record prices from collectors competing for Registry Sets.
