The coin market may not be hot, but it is definitely better than some think. We have mentioned that there are tiers of market activity; there may be a better description. There are layers of activity that seem to keep this market very active. There is a top layer of coins dealers and collectors are looking for and these are the ones most in demand. They will pay very strong prices for these particular coins and even they do not know how much they might pay until they actually see the coins available. There are thousands of coins like this and are also few and far between when it comes to availability. The next layers of coins are those that are on want lists if they are nice for the grade. Buyers are looking for coins that have eye appeal and are not low end for the grade. There are thousands of coins that fall into the group. Then there are the bottom layers of coins that seem to float around in dealer inventory, still there show after show. Dealers don’t need any more and collectors already have these coins so they become a difficult sell. Yet, if the price is right, they will still move to those buyers bottom feeding in this type of market. All in all it looks like a healthy market; with the metals looking stronger as the days of 2006 dwindle, we could be headed for an even stronger market in 2007. Gold is currently at $622.80 and Silver is $12.78. Platinum is very strong at $1248. -What's Hot?
