     Numismedia Coin Market Report

Market Remains Selectively Active

Monday, November 27, 2006 | Printer Friendly Printer Friendly

We are about to enter the last month of 2006 and the metals appear to be making a very strong move to close out the year. Several analysts feel that Gold can finish above the $660 level and Silver around $15 per ounce. If this happens, the coin market should remain in an up cycle. This morning Gold is up $11 at $639.60 and Silver is $13.47. Platinum was higher but has drifted down to $1135. Make sure you check current prices before making any buying or selling decisions.

As we continue to update various series we are amazed at some of the prices we are encountering. Some coins are for so-called common dates; however, when you look at the census reports you will find that the number of certified coin does not indicate they are all that common. Further, when you look at the availability in the marketplace they are not all that plentiful. A strong case could be made that more coins could be certified and these coins would become less attractive to current buyers but that is the same statement that is being made about the modern issue rarities which does not seem to stop the current crop of eager buyers.
