Buffalo Nickels and Mercury Dimes have both taken some serious losses in value over the past couple of months. The primary support for these two series has disappeared and supplies have increased. In this week’s LD Wholesale Market Dealer Price Guide, there are numerous substantial declines for many better dates. The 1913 D TII Buffalo Nickel in MS67 has a lower Market at $10,750, down from the previous $12,500. The 1916 S in MS66 has a new Market price of $3,675, which has declined $275. Other significant decreases are the 1918 S in MS66, 1921 S in MS65, and the 1927 D in MS66. While some Mercury Dimes are lower, we do not see the excessive supplies on the market that we see in Buffalo Nickels. Most of the declines are for Full Band coins. The 1921 P & D are both lower in MS65 FB. Despite the fact that these series have seen drastic reductions in value, some buyers have been willing to take advantage of the current market and dealers are reporting trades at new lower levels.
