While we monitor the apparent freefall of the metals market, the coin market remains very active. Dealers and collectors want and need thousands of coins. On the dealer trading networks there has been some discounting of key date coins. However, many of these are not nice coins for the grade. These discounted dates usually have some sort of problem or lack even mid-range eye appeal. When we do see key date coins offered from legitimate sources, they will usually disappear before the sellers have an opportunity to run the messages more than once. In addition, even the bullion related coins are still selling to collectors or investors taking advantage of lower prices. It does look like wholesale prices have softened somewhat for $5 Indians in MS63 & 64. However, the only ones we have seen at slightly lower levels are the 1909 D. All other dates look nearly impossible to acquire at present levels. This can also be said for the $3 Gold as only the most common issues, usually the 1874 and 1878, are available in Mint State. Apparently the old adage of what goes up must come down still rings true. The metals are falling again this morning and it looks like they are testing support levels. Gold is nearing the $600 level and Silver is approaching $11. Platinum is currently at $1159. -What's Hot? $10 Indian Gold MS63 and Higher BU Rolls Dollars, Walkers, Franklins Gold Commems MS63 and Higher Silver Commems MS63 and Higher Barber Coins MS63 and higher Early Gold -- $2 ½, $5, & $10 XF & higher Battle Creek Dollars Lovely Toned Morgans Carson City Dollars Govt Holders Carson City Dollars NGC Certified Walkers 1916 to 1947 MS63 and higher Indian Cents Red & Red/Brown MS & Proof Early Lincoln Cents Red; MS64 & higher Key Dates in all series Dollars Morgan & Peace in MS63 and Higher -What's Not?
