Metals Headed Higher Again

The metals have rebounded lately and it can only help market psychology. While the coin market did not suffer noticeably when the metals tumbled the last couple of weeks, it is always beneficial when the metals head to higher ground. Although lower prices can slow sales for bullion related Gold coins, it can also spur some collectors to buy when prices appear to be at a discount. Yet, when the metals market rises, there are always buyers trying to add to their holdings before further increases in bullion coins. Now that the metals appear to be back on track toward predicted levels, the overall coin business will receive added impetus. So what looks good right now? It sure looks like collectors, and therefore dealers, are trying to find low-pop coins. This does not necessarily mean less than 10 coins certified. What we see happening is that astute numismatists are looking for pre-1940s coins that already have some significant following such as a key date or better date that may have a decent number of coins certified but are not easily found in the marketplace. Now you can find coins that have a census of 500 coins in a specific grade and it seems like every dealer at a show has one of these coins in inventory. However, there are other series where you may find only a couple of coins at a show. These are the coins on the hot list. We do not expect that this philosophy will change in the near future because it appears to be a very solid strategy. Gold is currently at $555.70 and Silver is $9.52. Platinum is strong at $1024. -What's Hot?
