Numismatic Festivities Begin

Monday, August 7, 2006 | Printer Friendly Printer Friendly

Denver is the center of the numismatic community for the next two weeks. The majority of numismatists will be in attendance for the same reason; the ANA Annual Money Show.

The talk among dealers right now is the low premiums for U.S. Gold coins. We have seen large quantities of $10 and $20 Gold Liberties being offered at minimal premiums above their melt value. This seems like a no-brainer for buyers not wanting to pay more than it is worth. The main problem here is that many buyers want these same low premiums for certified coins as well.

The metals are up this week compared to this time last Monday. The overall market appears stronger and there are lots of buyers right now. The Buffalo $50 Gold coins are bringing in their share of business and we expect this will not change over the next few weeks. Gold is currently at $649.00 and Silver is $12.31. Platinum is doing well at $1245.
