Proving once again that rarity is key to numismatics, the Queller Family 1804 Bust Dollar sold for $3,737,500 in the Heritage Signature Sale at last weeks Central States Convention. It is a Class I Original coin and certified by NGC as PR62. The market continues very strong for rarities such as this one, however, most potential sellers are not ready to part with them in this steadily rising market. Central States was active for most dealers but the continuing theme was readily apparent; there are not enough nice coins available at current levels. The majority of sellers are somewhat like collectors, if they cannot replace their inventory with new quality coins, then they do not want to sell unless they receive premium prices. Average coins are still selling for average prices and some selected series are rising as demand increases. The Moderns Wholesale Price Guide depicts a mixture of increases and decreases this week. Generic Gold and Silver bullion issues are generally lower, while generic Platinum issues are showing some increases. There are many increases throughout the Price Guide for Finest Known coins which are continuing to attract Registry collectors.
