Retailers Report Brisk Market

Monday, December 11, 2006 | Printer Friendly Printer Friendly

The market continues to show healthy activity. Dealers report strength in various areas while even series with lesser activity are still able to trade at discounts. Dealers may not be as frenzied as they were a few months ago, but they are keeping busy and the holiday season helps quite a bit. One area that appears to be gaining momentum is Deep Mirror Prooflike Dollars. Numerous dealers need most dates and they are willing to pay appropriate prices for quality within the grade.

One of the more interesting things we see comes from the dealer trading networks where coins are offered at various levels of our FMV. When we find coins that are apparently weak and discounted dealers create a lower FMV. However, on many occasions, coins that are discounted may sell very quickly to dealers with a need for these coins. Many of these coins are discounted for quick sales just to take profits so dealers can move on the next deal. These are the areas that do not need to fall in FMV because retailers still have strong buyers in these areas. This is very typical of Mint and Proof Sets where some dealers just do not have a market for them while others do.

The metals are steady at today’s levels and analysts feel confident that they will finish the year higher than where they are at this moment. Gold is presently at $628.90 and Silver is $13.80. Platinum has drifted lower this past week and now rests at $1107.
