Shows and Auctions Indicate Strength

Even the small coin shows are getting record attendance and dealers are reporting that sales are extremely profitable with consistency. Collectors are intense and want coins now because they feel that FMV prices will go higher in the future. The major auctions reveal about the same data. The only real difference is that major auctions usually contain some very special coins that are not regularly available so the bidding becomes very competitive. Yet, even on the less rare coins, we are seeing strong competition, especially when there are aggressive bidders butting heads for the same coins. One of the most important aspects of these auctions is the confidence level of collectors knowing that others are anxious to buy the very same coins. It looks like the generic Dollar market slowed slightly at the Long Beach Expo. MS65 Morgans were trading in the $170-$175 level and dealers were a little pickier. This is an area to watch for the next week to see if strength returns. Despite the fact that gold bullion retreated last week, it looked like U.S. Gold was trading at new levels. And $5 & $10 Gold Indians are very tough to buy at current wholesale levels. If you need coins you have to be willing to step out ahead of the pack to acquire them. The wholesalers at Long Beach were almost always busy trading coins and were extremely satisfied with results. The metals are up so far this morning as Gold hits $641.80, up $5 at this time. Silver is up 12 cents at $12.22; Platinum is at $1248, higher by $15. Make sure you check with current prices before making any commitments. These are open market prices at this time. -What's Hot? $5 Indian Gold MS63 and Higher $10 Indian Gold MS63 and Higher BU Rolls Dollars, Walkers, Franklins Gold Commems MS63 and Higher Silver Commems MS63 and Higher Barber Coins MS63 and higher Early Gold -- $2 ½, $5, & $10 XF & higher Early Bust Halves & Dollars Fine and Higher Battle Creek Dollars Lovely Toned Morgans Carson City Dollars Govt Holders Carson City Dollars NGC Certified Mercury Dimes MS63 & up 1916-30 Walkers 1916 to 1947 MS63 and higher Indian Cents Red & Red/Brown MS & Proof Early Lincoln Cents Red; MS64 & higher Key Dates in all series Dollars Morgan & Peace in MS63 and Higher -What's Not?
